Chris Brown court

Celebrities: ,

Chris Brown is scheduled to be arraigned today in the domestic violence case against girlfriend Rihanna, but sources say the formal charging of the pop star could be delayed. It is possible that the DA could ask for more time to look over the evidence or hand the case to the City Attorney and get Chris a less serious charge.
Fox 11 News obtained a search warrant in which an LAPD officer alleged that Brown repeatedly beat and bit Rihanna during a fight the night before last month's Grammy Awards.
According to the search warrant, Rihanna and Brown were driving when she read him a text message. Brown allegedly tried to force Rihanna out of the car, but her seat belt kept her inside the vehicle. Brown then allegedly punched her several times while he was driving, the search warrant said.
Rihanna's blood splattered all over the interior of the car, according to the document quoted by Fox 11.

At some point, Rihanna called an assistant and told her to call police. But Brown allegedly continued to attack, biting her ear and fingers. At one point, according to the document, Brown threatened to kill Rihanna.

Brown was arrested Feb. 8 on suspicion of criminal threats and is free on $50,000 bail. Prosecutors have not charged him, but he must return to court as part of his bail release. Gibbons declined to say when or if he would be charged.

The arrest was made after Los Angeles Police Department officers responded to a 911 call Feb. 8 reporting an assault and found a woman visibly beaten and bruised on a Hancock Park street next to Brown’s rented Lamborghini. Rihanna, who has never been identified publicly by police, was treated after the incident, a police source said.

Prosecutors could file charges, decline the case or opt to let Brown remain free while they take more time to investigate the incident. In the aftermath, Brown, 19, issued a public apology. A photo of 21-year-old Robyn Rihanna Fenty’s battered, scratched face was leaked to the gossip website TMZ.com.
People.com spelled out a list of possible scenarios that could go down today:

• The DA could charge him with any number of felonies, among them, domestic violence and making criminal threats, each carrying a maximum three years in state prison. They could also file a combination of felonies and misdemeanors.

• If charged with a felony, Brown will be required to personally show in court and could enter a plea.

• If the DA doesn't file a case against him Thursday, Brown will not be required to show, and would be notified to return to court at a later date.

• The DA could decline to file formal charges, and refer the case to the City Attorney's office for misdemeanor review, which could take days or weeks.
