Eight Oscars and $326 million later, the child stars of “Slumdog Millionaire” are still in the slums, says the Associated Press.
An AP reporter visited the home of Rubina Ali, 9, in Mumbai and found it “flooded with sewer water” and infested with scorpions, rats and insects.
A representative of a trust set up by the film’s producers for the children said they’ve shown the families several apartments in Mumbai but they’ve turned them down.
“They said it’s too far from where they are now living. We are going to do a second round. We hope they will like what we are offering,” he said.
